Film Studies/History graduate, using my love and knowledge of the medium to pass as a critic. To my editor’s chagrin, I typically like to go over my word count in discussing films. Most if not all my reviews are originally written within an hour of finishing the film, so that I can deliver an unfiltered, raw, genuine, in the moment, thought process to you. My taste is eclectic (both in film and music), but I have a strong preference for 80s Cult/Sleaze films, Sci-fi, War, Chambara, Fantasy, and Psychological Thrillers. Thanks for giving us a read and I hope you’ve enjoyed your visit! Long live physical media; long live VHS. Remember: watch whatever, whenever, with whomever.

Best of 2020- Lee

To say “What a year we’ve had” would not only be an understatement, but an unwanted cue for an unnecessary flashback reminding us of the whole catastrophic chapter we’ve been through. But that’s just it: “we’ve been through.” Riding some massive ups and downs that put any roller coaster in the history of mankind to…

The Devil All the Time

“Blessed…are they who hunger and thirst…for righteousness.” Whether it be a couple of cold ones, a couple of poachers, some unsuspecting hitchhikers, predatory preachers, or corrupt ne’er-do-wells, the people of Knockemstiff, Ohio certainly live up to their town’s namesake. The Devil All the Time is my third most anticipated film of 2020, behind Dune and…

Da 5 Bloods

“When you take 20 million black people and make them fight all your wars and pick all your cotton and never give them any real recompense, sooner or later their allegiance towards you is going to wear thin.”  Spike Lee opens up his latest joint, Da 5 Bloods, with a shockingly well timed, eye-opening montaged…

TFW NO GF

“There’s a dichotomy. You can’t talk about Wojack and not bring up Pepe, because they go together as the duality of man. The Pepe is like your troll-self, your public persona…then on the other half we have our Wojack. He’s like our private selves, who isn’t like that at all: he’s very depressed, feels inadequate,…

Bloodshot

“They filled my head with nightmares and sent me on a suicide mission.” To those not well versed in the tangible world of physical media comic books, the names Bloodshot and Valiant Comics may not ring any bells. Odds are you wouldn’t be the only person to question or hear confusion over whether this new…

Underwater

“We drilled to deep, took too much. And now she’s taking it all back.” I can wholeheartedly state that starting my 2020 theatre experience with William Eubank‘s claustrophobic sci-fi thriller, Underwater, was a grand success. Led by one of the best working actresses and personal favorites, Kristen Stewart, Underwater is marketed as a sort of…

Black Christmas

To the tune of “Up on the Housetop”: “Up in the frat house, there’s one true factAnd that is, that I was attacked.Ho ho ho, I didn’t know.Ho ho ho, I didn’t know.Because up in the frat house click click click. You slipped me a roofieAnd then your dick.“ The second remake of the 1974…

21 Bridges

“We got twenty-one bridges in and out of Manhattan. Shut them down. Three rivers. Close them. Four tunnels. Block them. Stop every train and loop the subways. Then we flood the island with blue“. I’d like to start off this review by stating that my brother and I entered this film expecting to have a…

The Good Liar

“Secrets between you, God, the Devil, and the dead“. Bill Condon‘s drama thriller, The Good Liar, boasts two great performances from acting royalty Dame Helen Mirren and Sir Ian McKellen. Their chemistry is authentic, magnetic, and intoxicatingly charming, making it all the more astonishing that this is their first collaboration. For a film shortly under…
